This is from the second Salon, which I believe was in March. Look at those adorable, creative faces!
Listening to Matt share his contribution to the book our parents are making about our house inspired me to share what I wrote as well. I apologize I was not able to retrieve the text during the actual salon but I thought you all might still like to read it here. I am curious as to whether these brief memories have any interest to one who has never been in our house. As you will see, each paragraph pertains to a different room or area. I would also appreciate any advice on how to develop these ideas.

One of my first paid jobs was to scrape and repaint the porch. I don’t think I enjoyed the scraping very much. I got a boom-box with a CD player for my birthday and enjoyed listening to music as I worked. I probably took twice as long as I should have. Still, I’m glad I contributed to a modest entry in the list of home improvements.
I put glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling of my bedroom. There is a sticker for each planet orbiting the light at the center of the room. Above the head of my bed I made a rather narcissistic constellation spelling out my name. I later realized it was too blatant and removed some of the stars, though if you know where to look it is still quite obvious.
Not long after my room was given new wallpaper I covered most of it with posters of movies and musicians. I may have been inspired by the wallpaper’s subtle pattern of dots which made it easy to line up the edges of a poster to hang it straight.
I loved having two large closets in my room. They were full of books, games, toys, baseball cards and clothes. Unfortunately, I grew too tall to comfortably fit through the doors to those closets. Many poorly chosen words were spoken upon banging my head on the way to picking out a shirt for the day.
In the process of removing the old staircase to make room for the deck I injured myself on a rusty nail and had to get a tetanus shot. Having dinner out on the deck when the lilacs are in bloom is one my favorite things. That is, unless the Minnesotan Monster Mosquitos are biting.
Despite being one block away from Langford Park with its indoor and outdoor courts, it was important to have a basketball hoop mounted on our garage. I seem to remember the neighbors back there putting up a little fuss. Undeterred, we learned to accommodate the uneven pavement, overhanging branches and power lines. Being able to shoot a few hoops while still near enough to be called in for dinner was worth the effort.
